Travel: Why You Can’t Miss Out in Maine’s Acadia Oktoberfest

If you can’t make it out to the Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, there are plenty of cities around the world that host their own version of the event. For example, you may want to head down to Acadia Oktoberfest. Here’s what you can expect when you visit.

About Acadia Oktoberfest

Acadia Oktoberfest takes place across a weekend in early October. In 2022, it happened on October 7 with an annual wine tasting from 4-6 PM and an annual Brewfest on October 8 from 12-5 PM. This year’s location was Archie’s Lobster.

Ticket Information

Ticket prices are as follows:

• Wine Tasting: $20 including the program, hors d’ oeuvres & wine tasting, $10 for non-drinking and designated driver admission

• Brewfest: $35 including a 4 oz. souvenir glass for unlimited beer samples, $10 non-drinking & designated driver admission

Vendors

There will be several vendors at the event selling food, beer, and arts and crafts items.

Music and Entertainment

There will be bands providing musical entertainment. Games and events include the following:

• Stein Hoisting Tournament: This traditional Oktoberfest game requires contestants to hold out full beer steins with their arms outstretched. The ones who hold out the longest win.

• Torpedo Keg Toss: This game is similar to bowling but instead of using a ball and pins, you roll a keg at other kegs.

• Cornhole: This well-known festival game involves tossing a bean bag at a board and trying to get it into the hole in the board. Points are scored when the player hits the board or gets the bag in the hole.

• Atlantic Brewing’s 2022 Belt Sander Races: The fun continues the Sunday after Oktoberfest with Belt Sander Races: Belt sander races involve racing belt sanders competitively. This year’s event was Maine themed. It featured barbecue food, live music, and races. Proceeds benefited the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center and the Muir Fund for Cancer Support.

• Artwaves Show & Sell: This vendor event also happened the Sunday after Oktoberfest and served as a great way to support local art.

Things to Do in Acadia Maine

The main attraction of Acadia is its national park. Here are some things to do when visiting the park:

• Drive Through the Park: Make reservations to drive through the park, Sunrise and daytime reservations are available.

• Go Hiking: Acadia Park offers a variety of hiking trails including coastal and mountain trails.

• Cadillac Mountain: Cadillac Mountain makes an excellent destination any time of day but it’s especially beautiful at sunrise.

• Park Loop Road: This 27-mile loop goes through Mountain Desert Island and connects several of Acadia’s popular spots including Cadillac Mountain and Jordan Pond. It makes for a fantastic drive.

• Sand Beach: This scenic beach is a terrific strolling destination.

• Thunder Hole: This is a small inlet where waves roll against the rocks producing a thunderous sound. The water can spray up to 40 feet into the air.

• Jordan Pond House: Jordan Pond House is located on the shore of Jordan Pond and offers tasty treats.

• Carriage Roads: The carriage roads were built between 1913 and 1940 to take carriages through the park. They are also open to hikers, walkers, and bikers.

• Boat Tours: Tour the islands and coastlines of Acadia National Park on sightseeing cruise.

• Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse: This is a photogenic spot, particularly at sunrise.
